Dreams, at times, can be very confusing, sometimes banal, and other times eerie or staggering. Sigmund Freud considered dreaming to be an expression of repressed conflicts, desires or wish-fulfillment. Perhaps our brain is working on problem-solving while we sleep and simply thinking in a different biochemical state. I believe that dreams allow us to process information or events that may be confusing or painful in an environment that may feel emotionally real but is physically unreal.
For the longest time, I've been wanting to take dream-like photos in a haunting historic location, something that resembled certain aspects of my past dreams. My intention is to portray an altered state of consciousness that is somewhat ethereal and mysterious. A group of photographer friends (Melynda Christensen and Wendi Brungraber) and I decided to go to Bisbee on June 9th and photograph model Rielle at the Copper Queen Hotel.
